There are so many different types of Reality TV shows. Some examples of this are "Temptation Island", "The Bachelor" and "Fear Factor". Is Reality TV negatively influencing our youths today?
Firstly,I believe that these reality TV shows are produced as a form of entertainment to fellow TV viewers. These reality TV shows portray more daring and brave sides of the entertainment value. Sure,it cant be denied that these shows have a couploe of negative influence here and there. But TV viewers, especially the young ones, teenagers, should not be looking too much on the negative sides of the shows.Instead, the youths should be focusing more on the positive values of the shows. While the shows portray some negative influence, there is also positive values which our youths should follow their example. For example, what can be learned is,firstly, the importance of friendships and to value it well.Next is,how to respect other people's character, try to understand them.Next, learn not to give up,and always give things a good try.Next, learn to make crucial decisions. So,all in all,our youths should always look at the positive sides of these reality shows. *~(Muhd Farhan B Hassan)~*
No, I don't think so. As a youth myself, I am being entertained by these reality shows instead of being negatively influenced.
After watching reality shows like "Fear Factor", my fellow youth and I will not try putting in my head to a glass box filled with spiders. That's pretty silly to me. You get no return and yet putting yourself in such risk and danger. In fact, I don't think we have to process this in our heads to figure out if it is right to put my head in. It is instinct. Or even shows like "Temptation Island", we may enjoy watching the show but when it ends, what's next? Do we see kids buying a mansion and inviting hunks and babes to come?
Why can't we look at the brighter side of things? How about shows like "The Amazing Race"? I believe such shows do not influence us negatively but in fact positively. Looking at my partner in a helpless situation but yet stood by him, cheering him on, and even completing the race with the knowledge of being eliminated. We can see friendship, love, perserverance and teamwork and values like such.
I don't believe that tv shows like these will influence us negatively.
hmmm, i find that everything is like a double edge sword. it all depends on how the watcher views it.
if he tends to view it pessimistically, then, we have nothing but to expect all the negative points from the show to pop up from him.
but however, if he were to view if optimistically, then of course, we can expect all the positive points from the show to pop out from him.
i find that we should not limit ourselves to what shows can we watch and what can't. afterall, entertainment shows are meant for relaxation. if we were to limit, life's going to be very miserable.
Actually, there is no guarantee if reality tv is negatively influence to the youth nowadays. It all depends on the individual himself.
Reality tv i believe is just some sort of entertainment produced by the media for the public and not any bad influence for the public.
Often, this show truely reflect how a person behave in real life, unlike those korean, jap dramas which is often fantasizing, giving them false hope in that those things in the drama will happen to them.
In fact, to me reality tv is a positive influence in someway to the youth as it tells them how the society is revolving. Although it is a bit dangerous and disgusting sometimes, it tells youth that in order to achieve something you need to lose something.
I myself do watch all this reality TV shows, and i find it quite interesting for example 'Fear Factor', where it tests ur limits of fear. It showcases people brave and daring enough to perform the certain feat. Negative Thing is that youths might find eating stuffs disgusting. One other one i like is 'Survivor', i like how each individual plan to ally wif other then betray them at the end, not like i practice that but some of them have a perfect gameplan and its quite satisfying to see him/her win the competition.
I have mixed views regarding the influences of Reality TV. Firstly, I feel that although these television programmes were produced with the ultimate aim of entertaining audiences, I feel that it has a greater negative impact on youths as compared to its positive impact.
In Reality TV shows like "The Amazing Race", contestants were often shown to be lying and cheating other people, all for the sake of obtaining the prize money. Upon watching the show, some youths may also subconsciously be made to think that it is correct to lie and cheat to achieve their goal.
Other shows, such as "Scare Tactics" lures unsuspecting victims into a predetermined location, where they then face terrifying situations such as a violent crime being committed. This may be entertaining to viewers, however, to youths who may not be mature enough to know that all these were done for the sake of entertainment, they may be lead to think that it is alright to terrorize or frighten someone just to see their misery.
Another good example of Reality TV programmes that will negatively influence youths is the American-produced show, "Boy Meets Boy". The show is about several male contestants vying for the affection of the main male contestant. I believe that these kinds of shows not only does not have any positive impact on the audience, on the contrary, it will only corrupt the minds of youths, especially the younger ones.
One might argue that these shows will be shown only after primetime hours when most children are asleep. However, I feel that the existence of shows like "Boy Meet Boy" and "Temptation Island" is already sufficient enough to negatively affect immature youths as they may read about these shows in the media and try different methods in a bid to watch the show out of curiosity.
Hence, I feel that other than for its entertainment value, the majority of Reality TV shows do more harm than good to our youths today
Reality TV, these are the only shows that i would really enjoy watching. Ok apart from that. It all depends on the watcher himself/herself.
I say that because for me, i do not get tempted after watching temptation island nor do i start doing stunts after watching fear factor.Come on even my parents enjoy fear factor.
If you get easily influenced by these shows, Avoid them is all i can say to you.
I do believe that reality TV shows are produced as a form of entertainment. As a teenager/youth myself, I am glad that the reality TV shows does not have any negative effects on me. The rating "Parental Guidance" and "NC16" and etc. are there for a reason. It is there so that young children do not get influenced by it or maybe even attempt that particular stunt or whatsoever. If a person has common sense, I believe he or she would'nt do things that would not benefit them. I disagree that reality TV shows will have a negative effect on anyone.
This will depend a lot on the mindset and dicipline of the kids today and the nature of the show. For example, the show "Fear Factor." This show is all right for entertainment as it shows that one must be daring enough to accomplish something. However, if a kid goes out to the streets and start immitating the stunts, i would say that it is indeed harmful. So i think that all reality tv shows will have both positive and negative effects on the viewers. But it is down to the viewers to sort out what is wrong and what is right so that they will not be negatively influenced.
Reality TV shows are purely for entertainment. "Temptation Island" is a dramatic series which puts the relationships of couples to test. "The Bachelor" is about Brad Womack who goes around to search for his perfect wife. "Fear factor" is a show to test competitors' dare and endurance. Every shows will have their pros and cons. Such TV shows may/may not have negative impact, depending on how the viewers interpret the whole thing. Some shows may contain mature content or disturbing scenes which are not suitable for youths. However, I personally thinks that it will be fine for youth if they do not imitate negative stuff in shows, like doing extreme activities or go around harassing people. Viewers should focus more on the positive values which they are trying to deliver.
While reality shows are meant purelly for entertainment puposses, i believe that sometimes it crosses the limit. For instance shows like Survivor in which all values we learn as a kid is thrown out the window. This show portrays that its ok to be a cunning and kniving lier as long as you get what u need. Is this what we want our young to be learning. Then there are shows like Paradise Hotel in which you see a boy and a girl forced to hook up togather in order to avoid elimination. Besides this reality tv also thrives on one-upmanship, why then do we teach our children the importance of teamwork and not to be sellfish if they are going to be seeing this on tv. Some may argue that this is also widely spread on our tv dramas and movies but tv dramas and movies are not real. This makes a lot of differrence when it comes to our kids and youths. A lot of us will say also that we are not going to be dumb enough to follow what we see in this shows and yes i believe that. But that is only because we have had the proper guidance and supervision but what about the kids that dont?
I do not think that reality tv has adversely affected youths..The only possible way it can affect them is when they spend too much time watching those shows instead of spending the time more productively.
It has been a while since a reality tv show caught my attention. I feel that the ideas are pretty boring now and i hope a producer soon comes up with a breakthrough idea. If not, the reality tv fad will soon fade away. It has declined in the recent years in my opinion.
I do not really think reality TV has any serious negative impact at all. Honestly, I feel that it is more unreal to say the least.
The situations watched on reality TV shouldn't be taken seriously. No one really gets traped on a deserted island or are placed in a competition to compete for love. Ok maybe in reality, we do compete for the affection of another, but reality TV seems to make love so... cheap.
As my fellow classmates said, reality TV is purely for entertainment, for the enjoyment of viewers.
But there are some things we can learn from them. From what I've seen, shows such as "The Amazing race" and "Survivor", do bring out the best and the worst in people and they are things everyone can learn from.
Yes. I believe that reality TV does affect our youths negatively. These shows often present the wrong moral values, such as getting into early relationships or wearing skimpy clothes.
For example, the famous "Temptation Island" features different couples living in a island for a period of time. This poses a test for both sexes, and often one spouse would succumb to temptation and commit adultery. In my opinion, this is an assurance to young people that adultery and having multiple partners is alright and pardonable. Obviously this value is wrong and may mislead the teens. Other misleading values that alot of reality TV shows portray are violence, vanity and sex.
Hence, I thoroughly feel that Reality TV is negatively influencing our youths today and something should be done about it.
Next to the family, television (TV) has the greatest social impact on teens. The average twelve to seventeen year old watches about 23 hours of TV per week. You may know that TV has both good and not so good effects. It is not always clear how to use TV in a positive, creative way and protect yourself from the negative effects. But I think tv shows such as reality tv shows has an effect on the youth.
Today's young people spend more time watching TV (15,000 hours) than they do in school (11,000 hours).
The good effect of reality tv is TV can be used as a reward for other good behaviors, TV teaches you how to develop and use your imagination and Young people can learn adult roles by watching them on TV. We all tend to copy behaviors that are rewarded. Notice what roles and actions are rewarded on TV.
Now the bad effects of reality tv.Firstly,The Quick Fix - TV often gives false views of quick answers and rapid rewards. Then,Violence - Young people (particularly boys) who watch TV violence are more likely to imitate more aggressive acts, become less sensitive to pain and suffering of others, and may become fearful of the world around them. You may become used to repetitive or violent acts seen on TV. Weapons are often shown as attractive; guilt and remorse are sparse or absent.
